The Tea House - Riyad Accommodation in Essaouira, Morocco

Inside the old walled harbour town of Essaouira, close to the sea, the Tea House is a beautifully restored traditional home in the 'riyad' style, built around an open central courtyard.

Owner Alison Macdonald welcomes guests all year round, and true to the Moroccan lifestyle, her house is a colourful, light-filled sanctuary. It is a perfect base from which to explore the town, take long walks along the beach, or visit the markets for the day's catch of fish.

The 200 year old house retains most of its original features, and Alison has taken great care to keep the warm patina of an aged and well-loved home. The antique furniture has been collected from around Morocco, doors and shutters have weathered paintwork, and the walls are hand-polished using a traditional technique known as 'tadilakt'.

"... very much 'traditional Essaouira' ... Highly recommended"
